During the Bloomberg Technology Summit on Thursday, Microsoft announced that it will launch its own mobile game store in July 2024.
Sarah Bond Xbox’s President Said that the company has plans to bring it’s first-party portfolio, which will include titles like Candy Crush, Minecraft and others, to the Mobile Game Store at it’s launch. The Company then plans to open up the mobile store to other publishers and third party game companies.
Sarah Bond said: “We’re going to start on the web and we’re doing that because that really allows us to make it an experience that’s accessible across all devices, all countries, no matter what, independent of the policies of closed ecosystem stores, and then we’re going to extend from there.”
And By launching the Game Store on the web, instead of an app, Microsoft would present an alternative to Apple Store and Google Play Store, which charge about 30% fee on sales.
The Official Announcement did not come as a surprise to many because Microsoft has been talking about launching an Xbox mobile gaming store for quite some time now.
Last December, Microsoft’s Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said that the company was in serious discussions with it’s partners about launching an Xbox Mobile Store, and also stated that it would arrive there sooner than later.
Microsoft had first stated Thier interest in a Mobile Store back in 2022 when it announced a deal to acquire Activision Blizzard. So to many who has followed the Company up since then, this comes not as a Surprising move but rather a company making progress in it’s set target.
