Xiaomi has launched its newest mid-range flagship phones in Nigeria, and the camera and battery upgrades are hard to ignore. The Xiaomi 17T Series, made up of the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro, brings a Leica 5x telephoto camera to both phones for the first time, along with a battery Xiaomi says is its biggest yet on any of its international phones. This is also the first time the T Series comes in two different sizes, giving buyers a choice between a smaller, lighter phone and a bigger, more powerful Pro model.
Let’s start with what matters most to most buyers. The Xiaomi 17T Pro, with 12GB RAM and 1TB of storage, starts at ₦1,225,600. The standard Xiaomi 17T, with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, starts at ₦864,100. Buyers in eligible markets also get extra perks at no added cost. This includes a 3-month trial of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage, a 3-month trial of YouTube Premium, and a 4-month trial of Spotify Premium.
Both phones come with a triple camera system built around a 50MP main camera. The Xiaomi 17T Pro uses a bigger 1/1.31-inch sensor, while the standard 17T uses a 1/1.55-inch sensor. Both use Leica’s optical design paired with a hybrid lens structure built for sharp, detailed images. The headline feature here is the Leica 5x telephoto camera, now available on both models for the first time in the T Series. It shoots 50MP images with image stabilization, supports 30cm macro photography, 10x optical-grade zoom, and up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom.
Xiaomi has also introduced something called Leica Live Moment. Instead of just capturing a single still photo, this feature captures the motion and emotion building up to that moment, giving photos more depth and context. It works across all rear camera focal lengths, and several captured moments can be combined into a shareable collage. The Xiaomi 17T Pro takes video further too, introducing the brand’s first 4K 60fps cinematic recording with natural background blur, plus an exclusive Live Cinematography mode that supports zoom effects and Ultra-HD recording in 4K.
Both phones use a 1.5K AMOLED display with 3500 nits of peak brightness, useful for visibility under bright Nigerian sunlight. The Xiaomi 17T Pro adds a hardware-level 1-nit minimum brightness setting for more comfortable night-time viewing. Refresh rates differ slightly between the two. The Xiaomi 17T Pro runs up to 144Hz, while the standard 17T runs up to 120Hz.

What stands out here is the eye-care certification. The Xiaomi 17T Series is the first Xiaomi lineup to receive TÜV Rheinland’s quadruple eye-care certification, covering blue light reduction, flicker-free performance, motion blur handling, and adaptive brightness control based on ambient light.
The Xiaomi 17T Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip, built on a 3nm process. The standard Xiaomi 17T uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra, built on a 4nm process. Both come with 12GB of RAM, though storage options vary, with the Pro model also offering a 1TB option not available on the standard 17T. Xiaomi’s 3D IceLoop System helps manage heat during heavy use, like gaming or long video recording sessions, so the phone should not become too uncomfortable to hold even under pressure.
This might be the most attention-grabbing upgrade on the spec sheet. The Xiaomi 17T Pro comes with a 7000mAh battery, which Xiaomi says is the largest battery on any of its international smartphones as of May 2026. That’s a 27 percent jump in capacity over the previous generation.

The standard Xiaomi 17T isn’t far behind either, packing a 6500mAh battery, an 18 percent increase over its predecessor. Charging speeds are solid too. The Pro model supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, while the standard model supports 67W wired charging. Both support fast charging through third-party chargers using PPS technology.
The Xiaomi 17T Pro comes in Deep Blue, Deep Violet, and Black. The standard Xiaomi 17T comes in four colors: Opal White, Violet, Blue, and Black. Both phones carry IP68 water and dust resistance, though Xiaomi notes this rating only applies under specific lab conditions and does not cover all real-world situations equally.
If photography matters a lot to you and you want serious zoom capability without paying full flagship prices, the 17T Pro’s Leica 5x telephoto setup and bigger battery make it a strong pick. If you want something lighter and more pocket-friendly while still getting a solid camera setup, the standard 17T is the better fit. If battery anxiety is your biggest worry with phones, either model in this series should ease that concern, especially the Pro variant with its 7000mAh cell.
The Xiaomi 17T Series brings flagship-level camera tricks, like the Leica Live Moment feature and serious zoom range, into a phone line that has traditionally sat a step below Xiaomi’s top-tier numbered series.
