Tecno has launched the Pova 8 Pro 5G in India with a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C camera, a 144Hz AMOLED display and a 6,500mAh battery. The phone also comes with a secondary LED display on the rear, giving the Pova series another unusual design feature.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G is priced at ₹49,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model in India, while the 12GB RAM and 512GB version costs ₹54,999. Sales are scheduled to begin on August 21 through Flipkart and retail stores in India.

The phone has a 6.78-inch 1.5K HyperLux AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Tecno lists up to 4,500 nits peak brightness and a 2,800Hz touch sampling rate for the screen.

The high refresh rate is aimed at users who want smoother scrolling and gaming. Tecno also says the phone supports gaming at up to 144 frames per second in supported titles, although some of the 144FPS gaming features depend on future game updates.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G chipset and is paired with a dedicated TECNO P1 graphics chip. The phone also has a 5,000mm² IceShield VC cooling system designed to help manage heat during demanding use.

Memory options include 8GB or 12GB of physical RAM, with extended RAM taking the advertised figure up to 24GB. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB, depending on the model.

The main camera is a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C sensor with optical image stabilisation. It is joined by an 8MP ultra-wide camera, while the front camera has a 13MP sensor.

The OIS system is designed to reduce camera shake, which can help when taking photos in low light or recording video while moving. Tecno also combines OIS with electronic image stabilisation for its hybrid stabilisation system.

One of the phone’s most noticeable features is the Alive Matrix display on the back. It uses 177 mini LEDs to show different lighting effects across more than 49 scenarios, according to Tecno.

The feature is mainly designed to add visual effects and notifications to the rear of the phone. It also separates the Pova 8 Pro 5G from many other mid-range Android phones.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G packs a 6,500mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. Tecno says its battery technology is designed to maintain battery health over a longer period, with the company claiming up to six years of battery health under its stated conditions.

The phone also carries IP69K, IP69, IP68 and IP66 dust and water resistance ratings on Tecno’s specifications page. It weighs 189g and measures 7.39mm thick.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G runs HiOS 16 and comes with Android 16. Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, GPS and USB Type-C.

Tecno has also included AI features aimed at calls and everyday use. These include functions for recording, transcribing and summarising calls on supported versions of the device.

The confirmed pricing above is for India, not Nigeria. No official Nigerian price was found in the sources checked, so a naira price should not be assumed or converted as an official local price.

For Nigerian buyers, the more important question will be when Tecno officially announces local availability and pricing. Until then, the Indian launch price provides a reference point, but local taxes, distribution costs and Tecno’s Nigerian pricing could make the final figure different.

The Pova 8 Pro 5G brings together a 144Hz AMOLED screen, Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chipset, dedicated graphics hardware, a 50MP Sony camera and a large 6,500mAh battery. Its Alive Matrix rear display also gives it a design feature that is not common in its price range.

With sales starting in India on August 21, the next major detail for Nigerian buyers is official local availability. Until Tecno confirms that information, the Indian price should not be treated as the Nigerian retail price.
